I would like to have my upstream PR in Renovate that adds support for Aube lockfiles, which ultimately depends on this being merged 🙂

Is there anything I can assist with to help get this merged?

📝 Walkthrough

Adds Aube as an installable CLI tool. The installer downloads and extracts versioned Linux GNU archives using supported architecture mappings, links the versioned bin directory, and runs a version check. Docker tests exercise aube install and aube install --ignore-scripts on amd64 and arm64.

Changes: Aube integration

Aube installer and integration
src/cli/tools/aube.ts, src/cli/install-tool/index.ts, src/cli/tools/index.ts, docs/custom-registries.md, .github/renovate.json
Adds and registers AubeInstallService, maps Linux architectures to release asset names, and links and tests the installed tool. Documents release archive URLs and adds aube to the test dependency rules in Renovate.
Container installation validation
test/node/Dockerfile, test/node/Dockerfile.arm64, test/node/test/aube/package.json
Adds Aube test stages and a package fixture. Both Dockerfiles check that is-number exists after regular installation and installation with scripts ignored.

This adds Aube as an installable tool with container tests for both install modes. No merge-blocking risk is evident. Optionally, strengthen the fixture so the --ignore-scripts test can detect scripts running.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #7114 requires runtime-only Aube support from GitHub release binaries. AubeInstallService downloads the versioned Linux archive, maps amd64 and arm64 to the release architecture names, extracts the binary, links it, and runs aube --version. The tool is registered as a no-prepare tool. Docker tests cover aube install and aube install --ignore-scripts on the supported architectures. The inherited tool lifecycle removes the versioned Aube installation directory.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #7114. The implementation, tool registration, runtime classification, release documentation, Renovate metadata, and Aube Docker fixtures support Aube installation or its automated validation. No unrelated functional change is demonstrated.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 1 functions across 3 files. (5 skipped: 5 unsupported.)

Adds AubeInstallService to support installing the aube package manager, with custom registry documentation and test suites. The checksum validation fetches release metadata from the GitHub API endpoint rather than a sidecar file; consider documenting this API dependency in the custom registries guide and confirming the 60 req/hr anonymous rate limit is acceptable for build environments.

💡 Quality: aube checksum relies on undocumented api.github.com endpoint

📄 src/cli/tools/aube.ts:32-41 📄 docs/custom-registries.md:62-73

Unlike apm.ts which fetches a .sha256 sidecar from the releases download URL, aube.ts fetches the full release metadata from https://api.github.com/repos/jdx/aube/releases/tags/v${version} to read the asset digest. This endpoint is unauthenticated (the HTTP service only sets a user-agent header, no token), so it is subject to GitHub's 60 req/hr per-IP anonymous rate limit, and it is not covered by the custom-registries.md docs, which only list github.com/jdx/aube/releases as the download source. Users mirroring aube via a custom registry would also need to proxy the API host (it does pass through envSvc.replaceUrl, but that is not documented). Consider documenting the API dependency in custom-registries.md and/or confirming rate limiting is acceptable for build environments.

Use the existing BaseInstallService and tool registry, as the PR does. A separate installation mechanism or legacy shell installer would add integration work without a clear benefit for this release-archive-based tool.

Code Review by Qodo

Resolved findings
1. Consumers cannot discover the new tool ✓ Resolved
Description
Registering AubeInstallService adds the installer, but the generated base-package metadata still
omits aube. Consumers using the published tool list, tool-name type, schema, or JSON catalog
cannot recognize it even though install-tool accepts it.
Code

src/cli/install-tool/index.ts[123]

+  container.bind(INSTALL_TOOL_TOKEN).to(AubeInstallService);
Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The new installer is registered, but checked-in base-package metadata does not include aube, so consumers cannot discover or type it.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/cli/install-tool/index.ts[123-123]
- packages/base/src/data.ts[4-8]
- packages/base/data/tools.json[2-8]
## Recommended Fix
Run `pnpm tools` and commit the updated generated metadata files, including the aube entry.

2. Script-suppression regressions pass tests ✓ Resolved
Description
The --ignore-scripts Docker checks assert only that a dependency file exists, using a fixture with
no lifecycle script to suppress. On both architectures, an implementation that accepts the flag but
still runs scripts would satisfy the new checks.
Code

test/node/Dockerfile[138]

+RUN set -ex; cd aube; rm -rf node_modules; aube install --ignore-scripts; test -f node_modules/is-number/index.js
Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The ignore-scripts tests check dependency installation but cannot detect whether lifecycle scripts run.
## Fix Focus Areas
- test/node/test/aube/package.json[1-7]
- test/node/Dockerfile[136-138]
- test/node/Dockerfile.arm64[83-85]
## Recommended Fix
Add a fixture lifecycle script that creates an observable marker. Assert the marker appears after normal installation, then remove it and assert it remains absent after installation with `--ignore-scripts` on both architectures.

Exercise the behavior of --ignore-scripts.

This fixture has no lifecycle script, and is-number@7.0.0 has no install script. Both Docker stages can pass even if aube install --ignore-scripts runs scripts. Add a root postinstall script that writes a marker. In both stages, check that normal installation creates the marker. Remove the marker before the second install, then check that --ignore-scripts does not create it. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
