What

Reference implementation of RFC: Client interceptor seam for the SDKs, and milestone 1 of RFC: Pluggable offline support for the client SDKs, tracked in SDK-1886.

The typed table builders collected filters, orderings, column expressions and payloads as values but rendered them into URL parameters on every step. Nothing could run a typed query anywhere but PostgREST without parsing those URLs back, and the only extension point, httpClient, sits inside AuthHttpClient, so a request held back and replayed later carries a stale token.

postgrest

  • PostgrestTableRequest: the immutable value the typed builders now accumulate (table, schema, operation, columns, filter, orderings, limit, offset, embedded pages, result shape, count option, payload, upsert options, maxAffected, stripNulls, dryRun, explain options).
  • PostgrestTableResult: decoded data plus count, converted into the table's row type by the builder.
  • PostgrestTableExecutor and PostgrestHttpTableExecutor. The HTTP executor renders the value through the untyped builders, so the parameters and headers on the wire are the ones from() produces for the same query. PostgrestClient.table(table, executor:) accepts another executor.
  • An interceptor's pause() and resume() are not awaited by the Flutter lifecycle listener, so a slow or failing interceptor cannot delay or skip the realtime reconnect; a failing dispose() is logged and does not abort the client disposal.
  • PostgrestTypedBuilder.request exposes the collected value.

supabase

  • SupabaseClientInterceptor with wrapTableExecutor, attach, pause, resume and dispose, and SupabaseClient(interceptors: [...]). Interceptors fold around the executor that table() uses; from(), rpc(), storage, functions and realtime never pass through an interceptor. Auth headers are attached inside the executor, so a replayed request always authenticates as the current user. A header change keeps the interceptor chain in place.

supabase_flutter and supabase_test

  • Supabase.initialize(interceptors:), and the lifecycle listener calls interceptor.pause() on hidden, the background signal every platform sends including the web, and interceptor.resume() on resumed, whether or not realtime channels exist. The calls of one interceptor run one at a time, in the order of the lifecycle events.
  • testSupabaseClient(interceptors:).

Breaking changes

  • PostgrestTypedQueryBuilder and SupabaseTypedQueryBuilder take an executor instead of a client.
  • SupabaseQuerySchema requires a tableExecutor.

Both are @experimental surfaces on the v3 line.

Tests

  • packages/postgrest/test/typed_query_test.dart keeps asserting the rendered URLs and headers of every typed shape, which proves the deferred rendering is parameter identical. One assertion compared Prefer directives as an ordered string and now compares them as a set; the directive order changed, the semantics did not.
  • New packages/postgrest/test/table_executor_test.dart: the request value for every builder shape through a recording executor, plus PostgrestHttpTableExecutor parity, returning selects, schema scoping and HEAD counts.
  • New packages/supabase/test/client_interceptor_test.dart: table() reaches the interceptor while from(), rpc() and functions bypass it, the wire carries Authorization and apikey although the request value has no headers, attach, wrap and dispose order for two interceptors, header changes, schema scoping.
  • New packages/supabase_flutter/test/interceptor_test.dart: interceptors reach the client, pause() runs on hidden and resume() on resume without channels, both in event order and one at a time, a failure in either is logged, and neither runs after dispose.

Compliance matrix updated; validate-compliance, check-drift and check-api-symbols pass locally.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added experimental interceptors for typed table requests, configurable during client initialization. Interceptors can wrap request handling and receive lifecycle callbacks, including app-resume notifications in Flutter.
    • Exposed typed table request and executor APIs, including access to the request represented by a typed query builder.
    • Typed table queries can use a custom executor; by default, they continue to use HTTP.
    • Exposed relation and query details for embedded scopes.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified that interceptors apply to typed table requests, while untyped table requests and other client services bypass them.

Walkthrough

The PostgREST typed table API now supports configurable executors and exports its request and executor types. Supabase adds interceptors for typed table requests, with attachment, disposal, and Flutter foreground-resume hooks.

Changes

Typed table execution

Layer / File(s) Summary
PostgREST typed request and executor API
packages/postgrest/lib/*, packages/postgrest/lib/src/postgrest_typed_*.dart, packages/postgrest/test/*, sdk-compliance.yaml, AGENTS.md
Typed builders expose their collected request and use a supplied executor. The public library exports the request and executor types. Tests cover request values, builder behavior, and HTTP execution.
Supabase typed-table interceptor integration
packages/supabase/lib/*, packages/supabase/lib/src/*, packages/supabase/test/client_interceptor_test.dart, packages/supabase_test/lib/src/test_supabase_client.dart, MIGRATION.md, sdk-compliance.yaml
SupabaseClient accepts interceptors and wraps the typed table executor with them. The client attaches interceptors in registration order and disposes them in reverse order. Typed table requests use the executor, including through scoped schemas.
Flutter interceptor lifecycle
packages/supabase_flutter/lib/src/supabase.dart, packages/supabase_flutter/test/interceptor_test.dart
Supabase.initialize accepts and forwards interceptors. Foreground resume callbacks run serially per interceptor, and disposal waits for pending callbacks.

The SDK compliance check fails because one new public field is missing from the capability matrix. Registering it should unblock the check; there is no known runtime regression from the typed executor and interceptor changes.

…xecutor (#1939)

## What

#1857 was merged before the plugin seam was ready. This takes the plugin
system and the executor extension point back out of the public API.
#1940 brings them back for review.

The typed builders keep their internal structure: they still collect a
`PostgrestTableRequest` and run it through `PostgrestHttpTableExecutor`.
Several later PRs build on that (#1907, #1913, #1910, #1897 and others).
Only the public surface is removed:

- `SupabaseClientPlugin`, `SupabaseClient(plugins:)`,
`SupabaseClient.plugins`, `Supabase.initialize(plugins:)` and the plugin
resume handling in the Flutter lifecycle listener, and
`testSupabaseClient(plugins:)`.
- `PostgrestClient.table(executor:)`,
`SupabaseQuerySchema(tableExecutor:)` and
`PostgrestTypedBuilder.request`.
- `PostgrestTableExecutor`, `PostgrestHttpTableExecutor`,
`PostgrestTableRequest`, `PostgrestTableResult`,
`PostgrestTableOperation`, `PostgrestResultShape`,
`PostgrestEmbeddedPage`, `PostgrestExplainOptions` and
`PostgrestRequestOptions` are no longer exported.
- `PostgrestTypedQueryBuilder` and `SupabaseTypedQueryBuilder` take a
`client` instead of an `executor`.

The matching `sdk-compliance.yaml` entries and the plugin paragraph in
`MIGRATION.md` are removed, and `AGENTS.md` describes the executor as
internal.

## Tests

`table_executor_test.dart`, `client_plugin_test.dart` and the Flutter
`plugin_test.dart` are removed with the API they cover. They come back
in #1940. The update/delete test in `typed_query_test.dart` used to
assert on `request.filter`. It now checks the filter on the request that
goes out.

…ceptors (#2056)

## What

Stacked on #1940.

The typed function calls on `client.rpc`, `rows` and `value` and the
methods `supabase_typegen` generates on top of them, already collect a
`PostgrestTableRequest` with `PostgrestTableOperation.rpc`. However,
they always sent it through a fresh `PostgrestHttpTableExecutor`, so the
interceptors from #1940 never saw them. They now run through the same
executor chain as `table()`. That means an interceptor such as an
offline layer can cache, queue or answer function calls as well as table
requests.

The untyped `client.rpc('fn')` keeps bypassing the interceptors, the
same way `from()` does.

### postgrest

- `PostgrestRpc` takes an optional executor that `rows` and `value` run
through, and `withExecutor` returns a copy that uses another one. Both
are `@internal`, so no public surface is added. Without an executor it
behaves exactly as before.

### supabase

- `SupabaseClient.rpc` and `SupabaseQuerySchema.rpc` hand the
interceptor-wrapped executor to `PostgrestRpc`. Schema scoping is
unchanged because the request carries its schema, as it does for tables.
- `wrapTableExecutor` documents what a function call request looks like
to an interceptor: it counts as a mutation unless `readOnly` is set, its
table has no primary key, and a call read as a value has no rows. It
also says that typed requests an interceptor makes on the client pass
through the chain again, so the interceptor should use `inner` to bypass
it.
- The dartdocs of `PostgrestTableExecutor`, `SupabaseClientInterceptor`,
`SupabaseClient` and `rpc`, plus `MIGRATION.md` and `AGENTS.md`, now say
which calls pass through interceptors.

## Tests

`packages/supabase/test/client_interceptor_test.dart` covers:
- `rpc.rows` with a filter and `rpc.value` reaching the interceptor as
`rpc` requests, with the filter and `apikey` on the wire.
- A schema scoped call through the interceptor that carries
`Content-Profile`.
- A read-only call (`get: true`) reaching the interceptor with
`readOnly` set and going out as a GET.
- A header change reaching typed function calls through the interceptor
chain.
- The untyped `rpc('ping')` still bypassing the interceptor.

## Summary by CodeRabbit

* **New Features**
* Typed RPC calls now pass through the client’s configured interceptors,
including calls that return rows or scalar values. Interceptors can
apply to request details such as headers, schema, and query arguments.
* **Documentation**
* Clarified that untyped RPC calls, like untyped table requests, bypass
interceptors.

Follow-up to #1940,
which added `SupabaseClientInterceptor.pause` and fired it on
`AppLifecycleState.hidden`.

Part of the [interceptor
RFC](https://linear.app/supabase/project/rfc-client-interceptor-seam-for-the-sdks-cf968a76040c/overview).

## Why

- `hidden` fires on every tab switch on the web, while the realtime
lifecycle only reacts to `paused` and `detached`, so the hook did not
match what "pause" suggests.
- A pause cannot be relied on for correctness: the app can be killed, or
a tab frozen or discarded, without one. Interceptors such as offline
have to persist what must survive when it is written, so `pause` only
ever offered an optimization nobody needs yet.
- `resume` is what an interceptor needs to react to the app coming back,
for example to start a synchronization.

## Changes

- Remove `SupabaseClientInterceptor.pause` and its registration in
`sdk-compliance.yaml`.
- `supabase_flutter` only notifies interceptors on `resumed`, still
through one chain per interceptor so resumes never overlap and `dispose`
waits for a running one.
- The `resume` docs say it also arrives after the app was only inactive,
so a reaction should be cheap to repeat.

`pause` was never released, so this is not a breaking change for users.

<!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai
-->

<!-- coderabbit-ai-generated:v1 -->

## Summary by CodeRabbit

* **API Changes**
* Removed the interceptor `pause` lifecycle hook. Interceptors can no
longer receive pause notifications when the app moves out of the
foreground.
* **Behavior Changes**
* Interceptors receive a resume notification each time the app resumes,
including after it was temporarily inactive, such as behind a system
dialog. Resume notifications run in order, and one interceptor’s failure
does not prevent others from resuming.
