feat(webview): per-view ack, history and profile restore writes (N5, split 5/5 of #1546) - #2237
Split unit N5 of #1546 (per-view ack, history and profile restore writes)
Final unit of the split plan (tracking issue: fork issue 41), on top of N4 (#2236). Completes the pure F1a content.
Scope
postMessageToWebview posts synchronously without awaiting the webview ack, with the per-view state ack wired through the message listener.
History restore (createTaskWithHistoryItemUnlocked, updateTaskHistory) and mode switch (handleModeSwitchUnlocked) keep the per-view buffer/persisted entry authoritative.
Profile activation/delete re-pins the view-local state; handleZooCodeCallback and dispose clean up per-view state without leaking another view's entry.
Focused tests for ack ordering/logging, restored-mode validation and profile-sync behaviour.
Split unit N2 of Zoo-Code-Org#1546: viewStates read/write queue, claim rekey, prune, clear, load/save and export/import sanitization on top of N1 identity. Buffer/mutation/history content remains for N3.
N2 spec now includes the N1 identity tests plus the persistence/load/prune/rekey/export-import coverage; the setValues buffer test moves to the buffer unit.
Final split unit N5: non-awaiting postMessageToWebview with view-state ack, history restore via createTaskWithHistoryItemUnlocked/updateTaskHistory, profile activation/delete re-pin, handleModeSwitchUnlocked and dispose cleanup. Completes the pure F1a content.
Resolve them on the pull request, or post @coderabbitai approve as a new top-level comment to resolve them and request approval.

New Features
Modes, provider profiles, and API configurations are managed independently for each view, preserving selections when switching between views.
Returning to a task restores its mode and associated provider profile for that view.
Improvements
Settings imports continue to apply supported settings while ignoring saved per-view selections; exports omit those selections.
Updates to modes and provider profiles are more reliable when changes happen quickly or a view is reset.
Bug Fixes
Removing a provider profile that is no longer available handles the stale selection more cleanly.
The extension adds claim-bound per-view settings for modes and provider selections. ClineProvider restores and synchronizes these settings across task-history and profile workflows. Global-state writes track generations to guard cache recovery after failures and resets. Webview message dispatch no longer waits for renderer acknowledgement.
Per-key write generations guard cache recovery after failed writes and resets. Tests cover overlapping failures and export filtering.

ClineProvider validates view IDs and claims, persists and loads selections, and handles ownership, pruning, and asynchronous lookups.

Task restoration, mode changes, and profile operations update view-local state. Missing profiles use a typed error. Tests cover profile synchronization, deletion, and persistence failures.
The mutation check fails for this PR, and several mode and profile failure paths remain inconsistent. Resolve the gate failure and the active state-handling concerns before merging.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names a feature (per-view ack, history and profile restore writes) that matches the changeset's core themes: per-view view-state handling in ClineProvider, postMessageToWebview ack behavior, history restore, and profile activation/deletion. It is somewhat dense and uses internal split-plan labels (N5, split 5/5 of #1546) that add noise, but it still refers to the real main change. The title is a single sentence, but at 88 characters it is longer than the short, concise title the guidelines prefer.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
The prior secret-leak finding remains present in changed code. activateProviderProfileUnlocked now copies the credential-bearing providerSettings into viewLocalState.apiConfiguration (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3224-3229), and the changed getValues() returns that buffer (:4493-4495). API.getConfiguration() filters only top-level keys (src/extension/api.ts:626-629), so nested fields such as apiConfiguration.apiKey are returned. A caller can activate a profile containing an API key, then retrieve it through getConfiguration().
Resolution
Do not expose credential-bearing apiConfiguration through ClineProvider.getValues() or API.getConfiguration(). Return only non-secret configuration, or recursively redact every secret field in nested profile objects. Add a regression test that activates a profile containing apiKey and verifies that getConfiguration() contains no nested credentials.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
Changed persistence paths still allow state loss and partial commits. savePersistedViewState stores a claim, then postViewStateClaimToWebview discards the delivery promise; postMessageToWebview returns when the view is absent or disposed and only logs rejected delivery. If a claim is not delivered, the next setViewStateId rejects the missing or mismatched claim, so the persisted view entry cannot be restored. Profile writes also lack compensation: persistProviderProfile saves the profile before its Promise.allSettled activation writes, including the new per-view write; a failed write leaves successful profile/list/mode/shared writes committed. activateProviderProfileUnlocked changes manager selection before Promise.all writes the list, shared settings, and per-view state; a rejection leaves prior or still-running writes committed. deleteProviderProfile removes the stored profile before writing the list and repairing selections and view pins; a later failure leaves the profile deleted with stale state. These are changed paths in ClineProvider.ts and match the check's explicit failure conditions.
Resolution
Make claim delivery awaited and bounded. If delivery fails or the webview is unavailable, retry or revoke the stored claim so a persisted entry cannot become inaccessible. Make profile save, activation, and deletion transactional, or add compensation for each committed profile secret, manager selection, profile list, mode mapping, shared provider setting, and per-view value. If full compensation fails, return and log an explicit partial-failure result. Add failure-injection tests where claim delivery and each profile operation fail after earlier writes succeed.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template structure only partially. It gives scope, budget, evidence, and stack/merge order, and it links the tracking issue as a reference ('Refs: #1546, tracking issue 41 (fork)'). It does not use the template's 'Closes: #<issue>' line, so the required approved GitHub issue link is missing or unclear. The Description, Test Procedure, Pre-Submission Checklist, Visual Snapshots, Documentation Updates, and Get in Touch sections are absent or not filled in as the template asks. The description also does not explicitly state a test procedure beyond the reported test counts, and it does not address the checklist items such as documentation impact or the visual snapshot requirement for UI changes. The description uses a split-plan jargon that a reviewer outside the project may not understand.
Resolution
Add a 'Closes: #<issue number>' line that links an approved GitHub issue. If the fork tracking issue is not an approved GitHub issue for the upstream repository, link the approved issue instead. Fill in the 'Test Procedure' section with the steps to reproduce the tests, including the exact vitest command and the test environment. Complete the Pre-Submission Checklist, and mark the Documentation Updates item. Explain the 'how' in the Description section, including the key design choices such as the generation-guarded rollback and the 50-record cap on closed views. State whether any UI change needs a visual snapshot in webview-ui. Replace or define the split-plan jargon (N4, N5, F0, F1b) for reviewers who do not track the stack.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
Changed profile-deletion behavior still lacks focused coverage for its negative and durable-state branches. deleteProviderProfile now treats ProviderSettingsNotFoundError as idempotent cleanup, rethrows other deleteConfig failures, and repairs per-view state after deletion (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2994-3019, 3074-3130). The three focused tests added in ClineProvider.spec.ts:5601-5767 mock only successful deletion; none covers either rejection path or asserts the durable viewStates entry after re-pinning an active or sibling view. The tests cover some in-memory repair and task rebuilding, but do not cover the changed negative branches or durable-state outcomes.
Resolution
Add focused ClineProvider tests that make deleteConfig reject with ProviderSettingsNotFoundError and assert idempotent completion, stale-list pruning, shared-state repair, view-local repair, and durable viewStates repair. Add a test for an unexpected deleteConfig error that asserts rejection and no cleanup. Add deletion tests for the active profile and a profile pinned only in another live view, and assert the survivor selection and durable entries for every affected view.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The changed mode-switch path continues after cancellation. enqueueProviderProfileMutation aborts the signal when its 30-second timeout expires (ClineProvider.ts:374-381). The new await this.setValue("mode", newMode) can wait on the serialized durable view-state write (ClineProvider.ts:2636-2637, 4472-4475). When that write later resolves, the handler emits ModeChanged at line 2645 before its next abort check at line 2659. With the workspace lock enabled, it can also post state and return without checking the signal. The current tests cover an already-aborted signal and cancellation during config reads, but not cancellation while setValue is pending (ClineProvider.spec.ts:5268-5310).
Resolution
Check signal?.aborted immediately after await this.setValue("mode", newMode) and return before ModeChanged. Check the signal after each remaining awaited operation in the mode-switch path, including task-history update, workspace-lock state post, profile-list write, profile lookup and activation, mode-config write, and final webview post. Add a regression test that stalls the durable viewStates write past PENDING_OPERATION_TIMEOUT_MS, resolves it after timeout, and verifies that no post-cancellation mode event, profile mutation, or webview dispatch occurs.

src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2361 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚖️ Poor tradeoff
Move the TaskModeSwitched emit and _taskMode update after the per-view write.
TaskModeSwitched fires and _taskMode changes before the per-view setValue("mode") write. If that write fails, the error propagates, but the event and task mode stay changed. Observers see a rejected switch, and a reload restores the previous view selection. Reordering is not verified safe, so no diff is proposed. Check ModeChanged and profile-activation ordering before changing it.

src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2898-2900 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Refresh sibling view buffers when a profile changes.
getConfiguration() reads the sidebar view's buffer through getValues(), and the buffer overrides the shared store. The buffer keeps a copy of profile P's apiConfiguration from loadViewState(). When another view activates or saves P, the sidebar buffer is not updated, so getConfiguration() can return the old P settings.
The sibling-refresh comments at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2898-2900 and in the activation branch of persistProviderProfile describe a refresh that the code does not perform. The save-only branch at lines 2702-2716 refreshes only the pinned current view.
Do not replace the buffer with shared-store values. Each view keeps its own pinned profile in that buffer. Instead, refresh the buffered apiConfiguration of every other live view that holds P when P is saved or activated. Alternatively, resolve the buffered profile from providerSettingsManager when getConfiguration() runs. Update the comments to match the behavior that is implemented. The comments that say getState() is shadowed are inaccurate, because getState() reads the shared store.

src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4108-4110 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | 💤 Low value
Restored history mode is missing from the posted state during restore.
History restore now writes the mode only to the view buffer. Profile activation then posts state before the restored task exists, so the webview receives the pre-restore shared mode until a later post. The base wrote the shared mode before this post, so the stale window is new.
This changes only the posted mode field. getState() and profile binding stay unchanged, and an active task keeps precedence through currentTaskMode.

Update the restored mode selection used for the state returned by getValues so
it checks viewLocalState.mode after currentTaskMode and before the shared mode
and default; preserve active-task precedence and leave getState and profile
binding unchanged.
Assert the restored mode in the deleted-mode sticky-mode test.
The PR removes the only assertion on the fallback slug during history restore. The remaining test, should handle mode deletion between sessions, checks only that createTaskWithHistoryItem resolves and that handleModeSwitch is not called with "deleted-mode". If the fallback were removed, historyItem.mode would stay "deleted-mode" and this test would still pass.
The suggested assertion must not use defaultModeSlug as a bare identifier. The sticky-mode spec does not import it. Use the literal "code", which matches this spec's mocked defaultModeSlug.
🧪 Suggested test assertion
In src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts, inside should handle mode deletion between sessions:
// Initialize task with history item - should not throw

// Verify mode switch was not called with deleted mode
expect(handleModeSwitchSpy).not.toHaveBeenCalledWith("deleted-mode")
+ // Verify the restore falls back to the default mode+ expect(historyItem.mode).toBe("code")

src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts — base 1250a7baca, ours dd85aab97a, main e53f60fb83. Main keeps
the write-owner contract (stateWriteOwner/secretWriteOwner/secretWriteCount, the non-async updateGlobalState, the owner token, and the Memento read-back that corrects the cache when a
still-current write rejects). Ours is re-applied where it answers a different question: the per-key stateWriteGenerations bump immediately before the cache is set, and getStateWriteGeneration, which
our rollbacks compare against — main's token decides whether a failed write may correct the cache,
our generation decides whether a rollback may still undo a write.
src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts — base dc4ed27621, ours 2cd08751c0, main 87c37cf596. The
import block keeps main's withoutInvalidDisplaySettings next to our wider ProviderSettingsManager
import. In setValues, main's withoutInvalidDisplaySettings(values, onIgnored) filter runs first and
our invalid-mode guard follows it on the filtered object; that helper validates timeFormat/dateFormat/showRelativeTimes and never looks at mode, so the two guards cover
disjoint keys. Everything after them — the per-key generation snapshot, the guarded restore through _restoreSharedValuesAfterFailedViewWrite, and the view-local-state helpers — is unchanged.
A test fixture changed under these commits, so it is named here rather than left inside a merge
diff. Our own test ContextProxy.spec.ts > ContextProxy > getGlobalState > "should restore the last persisted value when two overlapping writes both reject" failed against main's policy because its fake globalState never stored anything, so main's read-back could only report undefined. The fake now
models storage: update commits its value, get reads it back, and a write that rejects commits
nothing. The assertion is byte-for-byte unchanged (expect(proxy.getGlobalState("apiProvider")).toBe( "anthropic")), the observable is unchanged (getGlobalState after both attempts reject), the two mockReturnValueOnce rejections and both awaits are untouched, and the expected value did not move —
only the fake moved closer to real storage, and it costs zero executable lines. A hybrid that preferred
our recorded value and fell back to the read-back was tried first: it fixed this test and broke main's
two ("reads the cache back from storage for a key whose store failed after changing it", "reads a global
setting back from a Memento that keeps the attempted value"), so for that observable there is no middle
position and we took main's.

longer exists; preserves mode when it exists in custom modes / in built-in modes; handles history items
without a mode property; continues with task restoration even if mode-config loading fails) and four are
zoo-gateway profile seeding cases (updates every profile and activates only the active one; skips seeding
when every profile already has the current token and base URL; re-seeds on a stale or missing token;
re-seeds on a stale base URL). The production code for all ten is present — ClineProvider.ts carries
the mode-fallback paths and ten zoo-gateway profile references; the spec file's only remaining zoo-gateway profile hit is an unrelated log-string assertion — so the assertions are what disappeared,
not the behaviour. This is the same failure class as the 49 heartbeat/timing cases reported on #2235:
our own rewrite of that spec family removed them before this merge; the merge did not. #2237 needs the
same remedy #2235 got — a test-only re-adoption head onto the split harness, no production line moving.
Cleanup head 08b633ded.git grep over the whole tree found exactly three references to statePersistedCache — the field declaration, the seeding write in initialize(), and the write on the
success branch of updateGlobalState — and zero readers: with main's read-back in place nothing
observed the recorded-value map any more, so the cache correction comes from the Memento alone and all
three lines are gone. Behaviour is unchanged, and updateGlobalState is now main's body verbatim plus
our two stateWriteGenerations lines.
Scope, same script and same base e943530c8: extension changed executable lines 827 → 810
(ContextProxy.ts 27 → 10; ClineProvider.ts 542, importExport.ts 251, ProviderSettingsManager.ts 7), types 8. My commit message for 08b633ded said "827 → 824", written before I measured; the
measured drop is 17, not 3, because restoring main's single-line .then(release, ...) removed the
success-branch block along with the three writes. Comment lines are not counted by that script.
Gates: on the merged tree tsc --noEmit exit 0, eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored on core/config/ContextProxy.ts, core/config/__tests__/ContextProxy.spec.ts and core/webview/ClineProvider.ts exit 0, prettier --check exit 0 on all three, and vitest run core/config core/webview --no-file-parallelism = 44 files / 1,290 tests passed — the
same counts before and after the cleanup head; packages/types vitest = 37 files / 643 tests passed.
No suppressions, no --no-verify, no changeset, no Stryker disable directive, no --prune-suppressions.
…split harness
The merge e943530 left ten titles in src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts
without survivors in our tree - all in-base, all absent on our pre-merge parent
9819b5f, none elsewhere in the tree, and every production symbol they exercise still
present. They are test-only, so they are ported here rather than answered in writing.
Ported verbatim from e943530^2 into the same describes. What our rewrite had done to
each case, by title:
Deleted outright (the distinctive fixture literals survived only inside the file-level
vi.mock factories; the assertions did not) - re-adopted here:
validates and falls back to default mode when restored mode no longer exists
preserves mode when it exists in custom modes (only main's negative case remained, in
our 'should not restore a persisted mode whose custom mode was deleted')
preserves mode when it exists in built-in modes
handles history items without mode property
continues with task restoration even if mode config loading fails
updates every zoo-gateway profile and activates only the active one (the update-all and
activate-only probes were gone; our 'creates a Zoo Gateway profile when none exists'
covers neither)
skips seeding when every zoo-gateway profile already has the current token and base URL
re-seeds when any zoo-gateway profile has a stale or missing token
re-seeds when any zoo-gateway profile has a stale base URL (our describe kept only
main's first seeding case, byte-identical)
createTaskWithHistoryItem mode validation - the grouping describe itself
Reworded to the observable this tree ships - expected values and intent unchanged (4 of
the 10, all four listed above as deleted first):
- the three mode cases asserted globalState.update("mode", <slug>). This branch persists
the restored mode through the view's own pin (ClineProvider.ts:1998 saveViewState, and
the comment above it says why a global write is wrong in parallel mode), so each case
now asserts update("viewStates", ...) plus viewLocalState.mode === <slug> and keeps
main's getCustomModes / getModeBySlug / log-fallback / historyItem.mode assertions
untouched. Nothing was dropped or loosened: the same value is pinned, for this view.
- the gateway case asserted saveConfig("Backup Zoo", objectContaining(token, baseUrl)).
This branch refreshes every zoo-gateway profile through upsertProviderProfile so that a
view pinned to a profile re-resolves it (ClineProvider.ts:3393-3407), so the case now
asserts the second upsert call carrying activate:false and that saveConfig was not
called at all. The title's 'activates only the active one' is asserted, not implied.
Harness-only edits inside the ported blocks: the readonly member swaps go through one
declared structural type (MemberSwapTarget) instead of 'as any', and mock payloads use
as never, so this file's no-explicit-any suppression count did not rise.
Verification: prettier --check clean; tsc --noEmit -p . clean; eslint --max-warnings=0
clean (0 errors) on the spec plus ClineProvider.ts, ContextProxy.ts and ContextProxy.spec
.ts; vitest run core/config core/webview --no-file-parallelism = 44 files / 1299 tests
passed (1290 before, +9 ported cases). Staged explicitly: only
src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts (+424 -5). Measured with the same script
and base as the other heads: PACKAGE extension still 810 changed executable lines, so this
head adds 0 executable lines (spec paths never count against the 500-line gate).
Re-adopted the ten cases this head was missing: bf7a9e92e (test-only, +424 -5 in src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts, staged explicitly - that one path and nothing else). Measured with the same script and the same base as the rest of the chain: PACKAGE extension is still 810 changed executable lines, so this head adds 0 executable lines and the scope question above is unchanged.
Per case - what our rewrite had done, and what the port asserts now:
validates and falls back to default mode when restored mode no longer exists - coverage deleted (only the modes mock fixture literals remained). Ported; the write assertion moved with our shipped path: update("mode","code") -> update("viewStates", ...) plus viewLocalState.mode === "code", same value, per-view pin (ClineProvider.ts:1998). Main's getCustomModes/getModeBySlug/log-fallback/historyItem.mode assertions are untouched.
preserves mode when it exists in custom modes - deleted (our file kept only main's negative case, in should not restore a persisted mode whose custom mode was deleted). Ported, same re-point as (1) for custom-mode.
preserves mode when it exists in built-in modes - deleted. Ported, same re-point as (1) for architect.
handles history items without mode property - deleted outright. Ported verbatim; passes unchanged.
continues with task restoration even if mode config loading fails - deleted. Ported verbatim; passes unchanged.
updates every zoo-gateway profile and activates only the active one - deleted (update-all and activate-only were asserted nowhere; our creates a Zoo Gateway profile when none exists covers neither). Ported; saveConfig("Backup Zoo", objectContaining(token, baseUrl)) -> upsertProviderProfile("Backup Zoo", objectContaining(same values), false) plus saveConfig not called, because this branch refreshes profiles through upsertProviderProfile so a pinned view re-resolves them (ClineProvider.ts:3393-3407). The title's claim is now asserted rather than implied.
skips seeding when every zoo-gateway profile already has the current token and base URL - deleted. Ported verbatim; passes unchanged.
re-seeds when any zoo-gateway profile has a stale or missing token - deleted. Ported verbatim; passes unchanged.
re-seeds when any zoo-gateway profile has a stale base URL - deleted (our describe kept only main's first seeding case, byte-identical). Ported verbatim; passes unchanged.
createTaskWithHistoryItem mode validation - the grouping describe itself was deleted; restored with its five cases.
Harness-only edits inside the ported blocks (no assertion content): the readonly member swaps go through one declared structural type instead of as any, and mock payloads use as never, so this file's no-explicit-any suppression count did not rise.
Gates on this head: prettier --check clean; tsc --noEmit -p . clean; eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored clean (0 errors) on the spec plus ClineProvider.ts, ContextProxy.ts and ContextProxy.spec.ts; vitest run core/config core/webview --no-file-parallelism = 44 files / 1299 tests passed (1290 before the port, +9 cases).
CodeRabbit's 05:25 round re-listed the same ask against bf7a9e92e (the review body asks to restore the restored-mode cases in createTaskWithHistoryItemUnlocked, the Zoo Gateway seeding cases and the handleZooCodeCallback persistence-failure case, with assertions on viewLocalState.mode and the non-active upsertProviderProfile call). That is the port above: the head it names is bf7a9e92e, re-pointed exactly as the review asks, and 45795c8cc leaves all ten titles in the file (349 titles before the dedupe, 346 after, none of the ten among the three deleted duplicates). vitest core/config core/webview at 45795c8cc: 44 files / 1,296 tests green.

Do not apply a generation guard to keys that ContextProxy does not count.
writeGenerations sets every key to getStateWriteGeneration(key) + 1. ContextProxy advances the counter only for non-pass-through global-state keys:
storeSecret never advances it.
Pass-through keys (taskHistory) never advance it.
For those keys, the stored generation stays 0 and the expected value is 1. _restoreSharedValuesAfterFailedViewWrite therefore never rolls them back.
Trigger: call setValues with a secret key plus mode or currentApiConfigName. If the per-view write fails, or another key in contextProxy.setValues rejects, the secret stays committed. The shared state is then half-applied, which this rollback exists to prevent.
Leave the generation undefined for keys that have no counter. The helper already treats undefined as "value check only".
Proposed fix
const writeGenerations = Object.fromEntries(
- Object.keys(sanitizedValues).map((key) => [- key,- // This write produces the next generation for the key.- this.contextProxy.getStateWriteGeneration(key as never) + 1,- ]),+ Object.keys(sanitizedValues)+ // Only non-pass-through global-state writes advance a generation.+ .filter((key) => !isSecretStateKey(key) && !isPassThroughStateKey(key))+ .map((key) => [key, this.contextProxy.getStateWriteGeneration(key as never) + 1]),
) as Record<string, number>

Cover the viewStates write in the no-mode restore test.
The restored-mode path now persists through saveViewState("mode", …), which writes the "viewStates" key. This negative assertion checks only the global "mode" key. A change that pins a mode on a history item without mode can still pass. Removing the if (historyItem.mode) guard is one example.
Assert the per-view observables instead: the view holds no mode, and the call makes no "viewStates" write.

…cond describe
The review thread measured true against bf7a9e9. Three cases appeared twice, identical
apart from indentation - "should merge concurrent persisted updates from separate provider
instances without lost viewStates", "should remove the buffered apiConfiguration when it is
cleared" and "should increment instance count for each new instance" each sat once inside a
describe and once as a direct child of describe("ClineProvider") - and describe("view state
persistence edge cases") appeared twice, so reports showed two groups under one name.
Deleted the three top-level copies; the in-describe copies stay byte-for-byte unchanged.
Renamed the second block to "view-local buffer: loading, setValue mutations and rollback",
which names what its four cases actually do: load the persisted mode, profile name and
resolved profile into viewLocalState; apply setValue mutations to global state and keep or
clear the buffered fields; drop the buffered apiConfiguration when it is cleared; roll back
the shared write when per-view persistence fails. The first block keeps the old title - its
eleven cases are all persisted-viewStates edge cases, which is what it says.
Survivor check before pushing: 349 test titles in the file before, 346 after; each of the
three names still appears exactly once and no title dropped to zero. Three other same-title
pairs exist ("handles case when no current task exists", "loads saved API config when
switching modes", "saves current config when switching to mode without config") and are left
alone: their bodies differ, so they are not duplicates of each other.
prettier --check, tsc --noEmit -p . and eslint --max-warnings=0 are clean, and vitest
core/webview is 34 files / 982 tests green. No production file is touched, so the scope
measure still reports the same 810 extension-package executable lines.
The review thread on the seeding suite measured true against 45795c8: every seeding case
put a single zoo-gateway profile in the store, where a first-only check, a last-only check,
an every-profile check and the shipped any-profile guard all take the same branch, and the
case titled "...stale or missing token" never left zooSessionToken unset.
Added three cases, with the production guard untouched. Two run through it.each over a store
of ["Zoo Gateway", "Other", "Zoo Gateway 2"] where "Other" is an anthropic profile: one with
the stale profile last, one with it first; each asserts handleZooCodeCallback ran with the
fresh token and that getProfile was never asked about "Other", which is what exercises the
apiProvider filter. The third gives a zoo-gateway profile with a current base URL and no
token at all, and asserts seeding still runs.
Controls, each applied to src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts, measured, then reverted (the
file's blob is ee8203a before and after, and git checkout HEAD -- confirmed it):
zooGatewayProfiles.slice(0, 1) fails the stale-last case; .slice(-1) fails the stale-first
case; replacing the apiProvider filter with () => true fails the "Other" assertion in the
stale-last row; requiring a non-null token before comparing fails the no-token case. Every
mutation kills exactly one test and nothing else.
vitest core/webview + core/config: 44 files / 1299 tests green (1296 before this commit, plus
the three new cases). prettier --check, tsc --noEmit -p . and eslint --max-warnings=0 are
clean; scope unchanged at 810 extension-package executable lines (no production change).

The extension diff exceeds the 500-line mutation-gate limit, so the mutation CI step fails.
The checked-in gate in scripts/stryker-diff.mjs counts changed executable lines per package. It throws when a package exceeds MAX_CHANGED_LINES = 500. The pull-request step in .github/workflows/mutation-testing.yml runs this gate on the reviewed tree. For the extension package, the count is 561 lines: ClineProvider.ts contributes 542, ContextProxy.ts 10, ProviderSettingsManager.ts 7, and importExport.ts 2. ClineProvider.ts exceeds the limit by itself.
If this check is required by branch protection, the PR cannot pass ordinary merge checks until the count drops to 500 or below.
Do not raise the limit or add a file exclusion to pass this gate. Split the change so each PR stays within the checked-in threshold. A narrow exclusion needs a maintainer decision and a reviewed change to the gate script.

Replace or define the split-plan jargon (N4, N5, F0, F1b) for reviewers who do
not track the stack.
- Regression Evidence:
Add focused `ClineProvider` tests that make `deleteConfig` reject with
`ProviderSettingsNotFoundError` and assert idempotent completion, stale-list
pruning, shared-state repair, view-local repair, and durable `viewStates`
repair. Add a test for an unexpected `deleteConfig` error that asserts rejection
and no cleanup. Add deletion tests for the active profile and a profile pinned
only in another live view, and assert the survivor selection and durable entries
for every affected view.
- Security Boundaries:
Do not expose credential-bearing `apiConfiguration` through
`ClineProvider.getValues()` or `API.getConfiguration()`. Return only non-secret
configuration, or recursively redact every secret field in nested profile
objects. Add a regression test that activates a profile containing `apiKey` and
verifies that `getConfiguration()` contains no nested credentials.
- Persistence Integrity:
Make claim delivery awaited and bounded. If delivery fails or the webview is
unavailable, retry or revoke the stored claim so a persisted entry cannot become
inaccessible. Make profile save, activation, and deletion transactional, or add
compensation for each committed profile secret, manager selection, profile list,
mode mapping, shared provider setting, and per-view value. If full compensation
fails, return and log an explicit partial-failure result. Add failure-injection
tests where claim delivery and each profile operation fail after earlier writes
succeed.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Check `signal?.aborted` immediately after `await this.setValue("mode", newMode)`
and return before `ModeChanged`. Check the signal after each remaining awaited
operation in the mode-switch path, including task-history update, workspace-lock
state post, profile-list write, profile lookup and activation, mode-config
write, and final webview post. Add a regression test that stalls the durable
`viewStates` write past `PENDING_OPERATION_TIMEOUT_MS`, resolves it after
timeout, and verifies that no post-cancellation mode event, profile mutation, or
webview dispatch occurs.

The not.toContain("Other") check cannot fail in the stale-first row.
In this row, the stale "Zoo Gateway" profile comes first. The seeding loop stops at that entry and never calls getProfile with "Other". The check therefore passes even if the apiProvider filter is removed.
The stale-last row already detects that regression. Moving "Other" ahead of the stale profile makes this row fail under a filter regression and under a first-only check. The stale-last row already covers both cases. The row still tests re-seeding for a stale first Zoo Gateway profile. This change is optional.

…ting profile save
The activating branch refreshed sibling views inline; the non-activating branch checked only
this.pinnedProfileName, so a save that did not activate left every other live view pinned to
that profile serving its buffered copy of the old settings, and left any task following the
profile with the handler built from them. That branch is load-bearing: handleZooCodeCallback
routes non-active Zoo Gateway profile updates through it.
refreshSiblingsAfterProfileSave is ported unchanged from the n4 head (877ea0a) rather than
invented a third time: one overlay loop over the instances pinned to the saved name, then a
separate task loop. The separation is itself the second half of the fix - the inline copy on
this head nested the task rebuild under the same pinned-name check, so a task restored from
history that follows profile A inside a view pinning profile B was never rebuilt. Both save
branches now call the one helper. ClineProvider.ts 6442 -> 6456 lines.
Tests. The existing sibling case drove activate=true while its comment described the false
branch, so it is renamed to say "pinned to the activated profile" and its comment corrected.
Two cases arrive with the capability: the same save with activate=false, asserting the pinned
sibling's buffered overlay moves to the saved settings; and a sibling whose task follows the
saved profile while its view pins another, asserting the handler rebuild still happens. Both
fail against 723c363 (expected undefined to deeply equal { apiProvider: 'anthropic', ...1 };
expected "vi.fn()" to be called with arguments [ ...2 ]).
Controls (ClineProvider.ts snapshotted at ff22c45, restored by content hash after each):
drop the non-activating call -> the overlay and task cases fail, the activating case passes;
drop the activating call -> only the activating case fails; nest the task rebuild back under
the pinned-name check (the shape this head had) -> only the task case fails; delete the
helper's overlay write -> both overlay cases fail.
Gates: prettier --check clean; tsc --noEmit -p . clean; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean on both
files; vitest core/webview + core/config 44 files / 1301 tests green (1299 before, +2 cases).
