Proposed Changes

Part of splitting #22 into small pull requests that can be reviewed one at a time. It is stacked on #30 (feat/observable-choose), so it shows only its own change; merge #30 first.

ChunkWindowBoundaries reuses the element type of the source for the boundary sequence, although R3 ignores the boundary values, so chunking by Observable<Unit> ticks or a trigger subject required a dummy map. chunkByBoundaries passes boundaries of any element type to R3.

Types of changes

What types of changes does your code introduce to FSharp.Control.R3?
Put an x in the boxes that apply

  • Bugfix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected)

Checklist

Put an x in the boxes that apply. You can also fill these out after creating the PR. If you're unsure about any of them, don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help! This is simply a reminder of what we are going to look for before merging your code.

  • Build and tests pass locally – 0 warnings, Fantomas is clean, and the tests that exist at this commit pass
  • I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works (if appropriate) – in test: cover the library with integration tests #22, the top of this stack
  • I have added necessary documentation (if appropriate)

Further comments

Tests (in #22): the chunkByBoundaries tests of ChunkTests.fs (unit ticks, Observable.Interval driven by FakeTimeProvider, failing string boundaries) and the scenarios of IntegrationTests.fs.

What changed in this PR

Adds Observable.chunkByBoundaries, allowing boundary observables with element types independent of the source.

Changes:

  • Wraps R3’s generic boundary-based chunk operator.
  • Documents behavior and records the API in the changelog.
